"It’s dangerous to go al - Oh! You have a shield…you’re good," wouldn’t have been as memorable.

The 8th and final day of my Fangamer Retrowear Week is here, and it’s been a blast. Never before had I opened a box and extracted 12 new shirts at the same time, and I very seriously doubt I ever will again. Wearing so many of those new shirts right in a row has been an exceptional treat this past week, and sharing Fangamer’s impeccable taste and style with you has been a pleasure. Today’s shirt is simply titled “Shield,” and features yet another gorgeous Jon Kay design, this one based on The Legend of Zelda series. The shield is Link’s nearly-constant companion in the games, even appearing with our hero before the first sword is given to him, and it’s often taken for granted. This shirt intends to elevate it to the importance it deserves, and it does so with a weathered, aged, and dignified print on this stunning Galaxy Blue garment.
I say that the shield is taken for granted, but anyone who has had their shield stolen from them in-game quickly learns to appreciate it as soon as it’s gone. Nobody like likes it when a Like Like eats their shield…I assume. Perhaps there’s an underground society of gamers who prefer not to have a shield with them and my broad generalization would be offensive to them. I’m not going to apologize, though; all the rocks, arrows, fireballs, lasers, and spells that hit those people have probably hardened them enough that they are now incapable of being offended, or hurt…or they’re dead. Maybe Mr. Kay could design a fairy-in-a-bottle shirt for them, as his awesome “Life Shirt” wouldn’t help them, either: I assume if you can’t be bothered to carry a shield, you wouldn’t have the good sense to use a life potion before passing out. So, yeah - No apologies to any weirdos that like having their shields devoured by amorphous enemies. This shirt probably isn’t for you.
(Custom printed tag in the neck = super-classy.)
For everyone else, I can’t recommend this shirt highly enough. That first time I had my shield taken from me in Zelda 3 by a Like Like, and couldn’t recover it in time, I unceremoniously panicked. My sister can probably verify that - It was a traumatic time. Luckily some of the shop-keepers keep shields in their shops, and a young Richard learned the value of money. Money can be used to buy shields, and money can be used to buy shirts with shields on them, and I suggest you do both. Especially the shirts part. You can snatch one of these away from the Fangamer kids right now via their website, and you can order a whole mess of other awesome shirts and products while you’re there, too! They have plenty of great stuff in stock now, thanks largely to the success of their Retrowear Kickstarter that my friends and I were proud to be a part of.
Did I mention all the sweet promotional swag that came with our Retrowear order? That’s what I’m holding up there in the picture - a free pin set, a Retrowear keychain, a special pin for their “Third Strongest” fashion Kickstarter achievement, and a fantastic coloring book! Every order you make from Fangamer comes with cool freebies, like pins and stickers and such, but they went the extra mile to encourage folks to back their restock project. The coloring book is so cool, and I’m really glad I went ahead and ordered extras for my friends. I haven’t started coloring in mine yet, but I’m sure once Leah’s grad school classes ramp up again soon she’ll need some primary-school-style relaxation. Thanks to the spectacular Fangamer crew for everything they’ve done so far, and best wishes to all of them for their future clothing of gamers everywhere!
…and if you need a new staff member, I’m available and willing to do Anything for you. Unless it requires giving up my shield, of course.
